| Laws of Being and
Action

The
Lord of the Universe is a God of order and uniformity. Therefore, there are certain foundational
principles from which He does not vary or depart.
To
understand these fundamental laws is a strong aid toward lifting
one above an arbitrary spirituality into the realm of Divine knowledge
and operation. The following are four of these basic
laws.
THE
LAW OF PROGRESSION
Light
that proceeds from the sun, or from a secondary source, instantly
ceases or disappears into darkness if its flow or procession is
intercepted or broken.
“For the invisible things of Him
from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood
by the things that are made.” Romans 1:20a
“For the Lord God is a sun and shield.”
Psalm 84:11a (See also Isaiah 60:19 and Revelation 21:23)
The
Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father.
“He that believeth on Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow
rivers of living water (But this spoke He of the Spirit…).” John 7:38-39a
“But when the Comforter is come,
whom I will send to you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth,
which proceeds from the Father, He shall testify of Me.” John 15:26
“And He showed me a pure river of
water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of
God and of the Lamb.”
Revelation 22:1
Since
then, the Holy Spirit is ever proceeding, flowing, or emanating
from God and the Lamb, like the light of the sun.
Acts 1:8 (margin) reads, “Ye shall receive the power of the Holy Ghost
coming upon you.”
Therefore, if any thought, feeling,
attachment, occupation, or whatever, comes between us and the light,
our spiritual life is interfered with, the Holy Spirit power lessened,
and as a result, we move forward on a downward grade.
The
currents of thought, feeling, and activity in this world are against
God and His power. Many
Christians are affected by this and fail to maintain the supply,
or flow of the Spirit. As a result, they live on a low spiritual
plane.
This
then is a foundational principle of Divine operation. If we do not keep a constant flow of the
Spirit, the power will diminish, the river will run dry, the fire
smolder, and the light grow dim.
THE
LAW OF HIS WORD
God
has given all power to His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the
Eternal Word of God made flesh.
“A body Thou didst prepare for Me.” Hebrews 10:5b Young
“Has in these last days spoken to
us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, by whom
also He made the worlds.”
Hebrews 1:2
“All power is given to Me in heaven and in earth.” Matthew 28:18b
In
the creation, “The worlds
were framed by the Word of God” (Hebrews
11:3). He spoke to the fathers by the Word.
When one is saved, he is born again by the Word of God.
In the Church, Paul commanded by the Spirit, “Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly”
(Colossians 3:16).
“If any man speak, let him speak
as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of
the ability which God gives: that God in all things may be glorified
through Jesus Christ.”
I Peter 4:11a
The
substitution of human learning for prophetic preaching of the Word
of God has wrought untold havoc in the Body of Christ. But now in these last days, the Lord is
raising up those who minister by the prophetic Word of God.
THE
LAW OF DIVINE INDWELLING
“Holy Spirit” is the name by which the
manifestation or activity of the Divine Being who pervades the universe
is indicated. He is
not merely an influence emanating from God, but is very God indeed. The Holy Spirit is that manifestation
of God of which it is said, “I
will dwell in them, and walk in them” (II
Corinthians 6:16b).
One
in whom the Holy Spirit dwells, controls, and leads, thus becomes
a “set in” grown son of God.
“A vessel unto
honor, sanctified, and meet for the Master’s use, and prepared
to every good work.”
II Timothy 2:21b
This
Divine indwelling and control should affect every faculty and function
within the redeemed. And
it will, in so far as He is given possession and sway; but the Holy
Spirit is delicate and refined in His touch, and has so great deference
and respect for the citadel of man-soul, that He takes control only
so far as we freely grant the right of possession.
Soulish man is slow to yield this right of way; so the Holy
Spirit waits as the tug of war goes on.
Concerning the yielding of these
human faculties to the Lord, each area is addressed in the Word
of God.
Our
will:
“For it is God which works in you
both to will and to do of His good pleasure.” Philippians 2:13
Our
mind:
“Bringing into captivity every thought
to the obedience of Christ.” II Corinthians 10:5b
Our
heart:
“All My springs are in you.”
Psalm 87:7b
“My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed.”
Psalm 57:7a
Our
body:
“What? know you not that your body is the temple
of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which you have of God, and you
are not your own? For
you are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body,
and in your spirit, which are God’s.”
I Corinthians 6:19-20
Our
speech:
“The Spirit of the Lord spoke by
me, and His word was in my tongue.” II Samuel 23:2
The
Church:
“You are God’s husbandry, you are
God’s building.”
I Corinthians 3:9b
“In whom you also are built together for
a habitation of God through the Spirit.” Ephesians 2:22
Thus,
there is a foundational law of relationship between God and man
whereby God asks and requires the entire possession and control
of the full circle of powers and faculties of each one who acknowledges
and submits to His sovereign rights.
Not
only is Divine control a foundational principle of Divine-human
relationship, but it is also a principle of Divine
being and action. Jesus
plainly taught this oneness and control for He said:
“I can of Myself do nothing ... I seek not My own will, but the will
of the Father which has sent me.” John 5:30
“I am in the Father, and the Father
in me: the words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own authority;
but the Father who dwells in me does the works.” John 14:10 NKJ
“That they all may be as one; as
You, Father, are in Me, and I in you, that they also may be one
in Us.”
John 17:21a NKJ
THE
LAW OF MEAT AND DRINK
A
far reaching shallowness pervades Christendom.
It is our having a mental conception of the Word, yet not
knowing it in its experiential power.
The
mental picture or image of a thing is not the possession of that
which is so discovered. All
saving truth that comes from God has life within itself and imparts
life when received in faith.
Truth held in theory without life is mere stage playing,
empty profession.
The
new birth, by an act of God, imparts life into a human spirit. It is accompanied by justification, clearing
condemnation from Heaven’s record book. Regeneration, sanctification, recreation,
washing of water by the Word, all these speak of the transforming
work of God within a man.
Their value is in experiential life inwrought, which leads
to spiritual maturity.
“He that eats My flesh, and drinks My blood, dwells in Me, and I in him.”
John 6:56
